May 7, 2006 was a gorgeous sunny day where survivors, supporters and volunteers were able to connect, share stories, and walk in support of those affected by vascular malformations of the brain. The day was proclaimed “Aneurysm and AVM Awareness Day” by Mayor Gavin Newsom and the SF Board of Supervisors. Supervisor Fiona Ma was on hand to show her support, speak with Aneurysm and AVM survivors, and to learn about the cause and how we can all do more in promoting public awareness. The ending festivities concluded the day on a high note, with food, music and a true feeling of community. The Aneurysm and AVM Foundation (TAAF) would like to thank the over 200 walkers, and generous sponsors, donors and volunteers for the huge success of our 1st Awareness Walk. We are extremely grateful for the funds raised which will help to continue our work in public awareness and providing avenues to support those affected. But just as important, we are overjoyed that this event brought an opportunity for connection and community, and for all those involved to raise awareness about the cause. We look forward to next year’s walk, and continuing to connect the people affected by aneurysm, AVM and other vascular malformations of the brain.
